our story

In 2007, the Calgary Centre for Global Community (CCGC) was founded as a non-profit under the Companies Act (Alberta) by Dr. Arthur Clark. As the organization focused on storytelling as a way to bridge gaps and create healthy global community, Humainologie was created in 2016 as the main division of the CCGC. Humainologie began with the vision of a more humane world, recognizing that we are all human and therefore perfectly imperfect, and the primary focus was storytelling to create empathy and inclusion. After creating over 50 short films, mostly sharing the stories of individuals from communities that experience systemic barriers, Humainologie revised its mission and vision to better reflect the work they do and the people that they work with and support.

To celebrate people facing systemic barriers by offering tailored support and centering their stories.

We are a unique non-profit that sits at the intersection of arts, community support, and social justice.

our mission

An equitable world where every human is heard, included, and valued.

our vision

who we centre

We centre and celebrate people who have experienced systemic barriers due to their race, colour, gender, sexuality, and/or ability. We know it is these people who have been historically underrepresented or misrepresented. We want to be the platform where they are the main characters.

what this looks like

storytelling

Amplifying stories is part of our DNA and we often do this through film and writing. But our focus is on the storyteller: how they choose to express themselves, their stories, and their unique contributions to the world.

events

If it involves coming together in community, we are on board. We strive to hold events with who we centre at its core and as its audience.

individual support

Hearing and telling someone’s story is just one aspect of the journey. We aim to provide support, financial or otherwise: purchasing equipment that will assist you in personal or professional development, helping with a significant milestone, or sharing connections.
